Winter sports

For skiers, snowboarders, snow-shoe hikers, walkers and those looking for peace and quiet, Arvenbüel is just the right destination for a vacation or a day trip in winter. We have a few tips for you!

Ski and Snowboard

The Hotel Arvenbüel is situated at the foot of a small but well-kept and very familiar skiing area. The slopes are directly accessible from the hotel! The big and small winter sportsmen have a chair lift, two bow lifts and a pony lift at their disposal. With the Mattstock chairlift and the Bärenfall ski lift, two further lifts are located on the Ammler municipal territory.

Children's ski school

Children are well looked after in the children's ski school (Swiss Snow League), and of course the mascot “Snowly” also pays regular visits.

Of course, experienced ski instructors also teach young people and adults at the ski school.

Cross-country skiing

On a length of about 7 km the Arventritt Lopie offers a perfect cross-country skiing experience with a wonderful panorama and a varied landscape.

The track is classic and partly also for skating.

Fondue in the giant caquelon at Arvenbüel

Mulled wine and fondue

On request, we can serve you fine homemade Arvenbüeler mulled wine or punch directly on the ice field. It will put you in a good mood and will warm your limbs.

After the fun and games, we will be happy to treat you to a fondue in the Arvenbüel restaurant: either in our restaurant, on the terrace or – very special – in our giant caquelon (for 4 to 6 people).

Alternative programs

If it is too warm and the natural ice field cannot be used, we offer you the following two alternative program options:

  • Beer tasting with the ice master:
Felix Thurnheer is not only the ice master, he is also a brewer and brews his Ammler Mountain Beer in four varieties at 1296 m.a.s.l. He gives an insight into the small brewery, explains the brewing process and afterwards you can try the lager, the Doppelbock, the brown wheat beer and the ale.
  • Guided walk to the Chapf with mulled wine:
The sound of silence can be heard along the way. It's a wonderful feeling to think you're alone in the world. Fine mulled wine is served at the viewing point while you enjoy the special view of Lake Walen.

Both alternatives are accompanied by instructors.

Winter hiking

Amden is not only a hiker's paradise in summer. Also in winter several wonderful hiking trails are prepared and maintained. Whether directly from the hotel to the Chapf lookout point, high up to Hinter Höhi or down into the valley to Betlis: even without skis, it certainly won't be boring in Arvenbüel.

Snowshoe tour with huskies

Snowshoe trails

On the slopes above Arvenbüel snow shoe hikers will find a true paradise. Four marked routes offer plenty of variety and even more peace and quiet.

A very special experience is a guided snow shoe hike with husky support!

When planning your snow shoe hike, please respect the game rest zones and pay attention to the current avalanche situation.

Sleighing

Of course, sledding fun is not to be missed. With the chairlift Arven you go up and on the official toboggan run with great fun back down again.

Smaller children will find ideal sledding slopes in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.

Those who like it a little more adventurous can decide to take a ride on a dog sled or take part in a one-day dog sledding course at the Arvenbüel.

Winter impressions

Excursions

  • Mediterranean Quinten at the Lake (Walensee): Have you ever been to Quinten? Don't miss this unique place! Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, figs, bananas and kiwis grow here. Vines also thrive here so well that excellent wines are made from them.
  • Seerenbach Falls and Rin Spring: Below Amden, near Quinten, are the Seerenbach Falls, one of the highest waterfalls and one of the largest underground river systems in Europe. The ice formations at the Seerenbach Falls in winter are particularly impressive.
  • Boat trip on the Lake (Walensee): The Walensee boat trip company also offers round trips in winter. Explore the places around the lake.
  • Town of Weesen: The beautiful town with the Dominican monastery and the lake promenade invites you to stroll and linger.
  • Explore Eastern Switzerland with OSKAR – of course also available at the Hotel Arvenbüel!

Museums

  • Museum Amden: Learn interesting facts about the history of Amden. The exploration of one of the largest underground river systems in Europe is impressively documented. Ask about the changing exhibition.
  • Museum and Gallery Weesen: The permanent exhibition is dedicated to the medieval town of Weesen in Roman times. In addition, there are temporary exhibitions on various topics.
  • Bakery Museum Benken: If you like sweet things, the confectionery and bakery museum in Benken will certainly make your mouth water. The Bretzelstube restaurant, which is located in the same building as the museum, provides a remedy.
  • Discover Eastern Switzerland with OSKAR, the guest card of Eastern Switzerland

Activities in summer

Of course, the Arvenbüel in Amden is also worth a visit in summer and autumn - for example for extended hikes, bike tours or canyoning.
